StoryWalk® - Earth Day: An Alphabet Book

  • Your StoryWalk starts at 236 Alexander! (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The EJCA invites you to participate in our neighborhood's spring StoryWalk® featuring the book, Earth Day Alphabet Book by Gary Kowalski.

Beginning April 8, you are invited to take a walk on the block of Alexander Street between Joffre and Central and read the pages of this picture book. Yard signs are posted at kid eye level in participating neighbors' yards. The walk starts mid block on the east side of Alexander and continues back up the west side. We plan to have the walk available through Earth Day (April 22) and our Neighborhood Wide Yard Sale (April 25) until the end of April.

Inspired by the StoryWalk® Project and its mission to promote early literacy, physical activity, and family time together in nature, the East Joffre Community Association's Arts Committee - with help from willing neighbors on Alexander Street - hopes this will be a family friendly activity that gets neighbors out together during the month of April.

The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpelier Vermont. Storywalk® is a registered service mark owned by the Kellogg-Hubbard Library

NOTE From the Arts Committee: Thank you to the neighbors who volunteered time and donated money and materials to make this project happen! If you have questions or feedback or suggestions for future arts projects, please reach out to Laura (@memflag) at laura.mcartor@gmail.com.

Neighborhood-Wide Yard Sale

Neighborhood-Wide Yard Sale

Need a reason to kick-start your spring cleaning? Let's have a neighborhood-wide yard sale! We're encouraging the whole neighborhood to join together and each host our own yard sales on this weekend.

Pre-Sale: Fri Apr 24 (optional)
Main Event: Sat Apr 25 (suggested start: 7:00 AM)

A NOTE FOR YARD SALE PATRONS:
Come visit us on Holmes, Palisade, Alexander, Reese, Central, and Joffre, from Central to Poplar! A map of yard sale locations will be posted in the days before the event. We expect 15-20 households to be running yard sales on Saturday, including several large-scale sales who will also be selling on Friday.

If we all have items for sale at the same time, we can draw more customers to the neighborhood! New this year is the Friday pre-sale, requested by a few neighbors with more items to offer - feel free to join in on one or both dates!

Three things to note:

  • The EJCA Board will be handling event promotion (putting up signs and posting on Nextdoor, Craigslist, etc), but now's the time for you to start gathering what you want to sell - it's a great time to declutter!

  • To help us cross-promote each other’s sales, please email the EJCA Board at eastjoffre at gmail dot com Mon April 20 with your name and address if you are planning to host a sale in your yard, and which day(s) you expect to be selling. We will add your yard to the map and will share the list of locations to all participating households before the event.

  • On the fence about participating? We encourage you to reach over that fence and coordinate with your neighbors! If you have just a few things to sell and still aren’t able to find someone to partner with, we’ll help match you up if you email the Board by April 20 with your name, address, and a guess of how much stuff you’ll have.

As always, reach out to the Board via email with questions.

Feel free to use this event flyer to promote the sale on your social channels!
